Welcome Ramseur School Staff to our new Wiki Space.

What is a Wiki? Wikis are simple web pages that groups of professionals, friends and/or families collaborate and communicate. The word wiki is a Hawaiian name for quick. It is a quick way to build a database.

In the first column, place your name. In the second column under discussion answer the discussion questions.

Mr. Embree
Work with student on projects they are doing in the classrooom. Offer help with research for the teachers and students.
Godwin
By incorporating technology in the research process, when finding and comparing data.
Mrs. Scott
We can do this in the school as well as in the classroom by taking a half day or day as a grade level to do a virtual field trip.
You can cover many subject areas and the students are engaged in doing different activities in each room.

We can make PBL's work at Ramseur by letting our students learn for themselves. Students can do research about a topic, then create a project and finally work it out. It will allow our students to be more hands on. Students learn better when they work on something and can make it their own. We need to allow our students time to explore so taht they won't alway rely on us for support and help.
Mrs. Rumley
We can promote student learning and engagement by adopting PBL schoolwide. All faculty and staff could be involved in providing materials and opportunities for research and project development relevant to student chosen themes within their particular areas of expertise.
Mrs. Donovan
We can make Project Based Learning work at Ramseur! We can encourage our students to select projects that fit within the themes suggested/proposed by the authors of the new Core Curriculum. For example, if "Change" is the overarching theme, 2nd graders might choose to explore how butterflies change (perhaps creating butterfly habitats, recording how a caterpillar changes over time) while 4th graders might choose to create projects that show changes in North Carolina history (How can we show that farming has changed within the last 100 years?). I feel it will be important for students to generate questions and then problem solve to answer their questions, working within a cooperative learning framework.
Ms. York
In Kindergarten we can introduce our students to PBL with small group projects which will allow them to be creative, share ideas, and learn from one another.
Mrs. M. Johnson
I think one of the key elements to PBL for our students is to relate it to their life. Taking the subject area and finding a specific interest for the students and turning them loose. Also teaching them how to research and also using rubrics to score themselves. We have to hold them accountable for their learning. Classrooms in all grades can work thematical to fit all core subjects into a particular project. Students will be hands on, working together, and learning all at the same time. Ramseur can make it happen!

These are some great thoughts and ideas on how we could implement PBL. I would like to visit a school that has implemented PBL and learn more about the process of implementation.
Ms. Manning
Project Based Learning is all about student discovery and inquiry and students taking ownership of their learning. In order to implement this, we must get students to own what they do. With common core approaching, students are doing more of this. Students in 5th grade will need to be very responsible to make sure they're learning all the content they need and not wasting time.
Ms. Poston
We can make Project Based Learning work at Ramseur by giving our students the freedom to choose topics they are interested in and allowing them to explore those topics more thoroughly and in-depth. These choices can be wide-spanned or they can focus on the curriculum in our classrooms (i.e. 2nd grade students choose an animal to research and tie in the animal's life cycle to meet that strand in our science unit). This would also allow students to learn from each other as they share the projects and information they researched.
Mrs. Ellis
We can do this by letting our students take their interests and research them and developing a project to show what they have learned.
Mrs. Brumley
PBL is a great instructional approach for our students. I think we could implement this approach by changing the
Learning Lab into the Project Based Learning Lab. It is a great space for students to conduct research and work on
their projects.PBL will also be a great way help our students to retain what they learn.
Mrs. Harris
Lots of planning will be involved to find ways to integrate all areas of the curriculum within meaningful projects for the students. Allowing students a part in choosing topics of interest would give them ownership of their own learning, which would in turn increase their motivation.
Mrs. White
We could make this work by turning each overarching theme in science or social studies into a group learning process. We could make all of our technology resources available to our students to research different aspects of the topic. Our students could work in cooperative groups to learn as much as they can about a topic and then collaborate as a group to put the whole unit together and learn from one another.
Mrs. Fulton
We can make Project Based Learning work at Ramseur by allowing the children to choose what they are interested in learning and allow them to work with other children to reserch online using the technology available. Then they can create their own projects to show what they have learned about their topic. The topic they choose could be from a list of topics that should be covered in their grade level but the fact that they get top choose makes it more meaningful to them. Then allowing them to work together gives thema chance to learn from each other int heir groups and from other groups as well.
